Derry Man Charged with Pointing Guns at People While Drunk

Joseph Blumenthal is facing two counts of reckless conduct.

A Derry man was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of reckless conduct for allegedly pointing guns at two different people on two separate occasions.

Around 10:20 p.m. Monday, members of the Nashua Police Department Uniform Field Operations Division arrested Joseph Blumenthal, 26, of 86 Blueberry Hill Road, Derry for reckless conduct, a Class B felony.

Patrol officers had responded to a residence on Cottage Avenue around 9 p.m. Monday after a man reported that Blumenthal had pointed a rifle at him. Upon arrival, officers discovered that Blumenthal was intoxicated and in possession of a loaded firearm during a verbal altercation. Blumenthal was subsequently placed under arrest. The investigation was furthered by members of the Criminal Investigation Division.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Blumenthal had pointed a different firearm at a woman, also while intoxicated, approximately two months earlier while the two of them were inside the same residence on Cottage Avenue. Based on this information, Blumenthal was charged with an additional count of reckless conduct.

Both firearms involved in these incidents have been recovered.

Blumenthal is being held at the Nashua Police Department on $10,000 cash or surety bail pending arraignment in 9th Circuit District Division Nashua Court on Tuesday.
