Explosion At Manchester Homeless Camp Kills 1 Person Saturday

A camp in the area of Willow and Pine streets is the focus of an investigation by police, firefighters, and the State Fire Marshal's Office.

MANCHESTER, NH — The New Hampshire Fire Marshal's Office and Manchester police and firefighters are investigating an explosion reported at a homeless camp that killed one person on Saturday.

Workers at a business on Willow Street near Pine Street heard what they described as "loud popping noises, sounding like gunfire or small explosions,” just after 1 p.m.

According to the witnesses, they went to the area of the explosion sounds to investigate and found a tent in an area occupied by some homeless campers as well as a small fire.

The Manchester Fire Department was dispatched a few minutes later for a small outside fire in the rear of the address. The Manchester police log online indicated officers were dispatched to the area behind Motorcycles of Manchester on Willow Street for a deceased person. This is in the same area of the homeless camp.

Manchester police detectives arrived at the scene around 2 p.m. with the crime van and fire investigators.

Manchester police investigated a death of a 40-year-old male earlier this week, the individual was found deceased under the Bridge Street bridge at a homeless camp.
