Londonderry Man Among Hurricane Dorian Red Cross Volunteers

As Hurricane Dorian approaches, Londonderry resident Mark Critz is ready to volunteer with Red Cross to help prepare for the event.

CONCORD, NH — As Hurricane Dorian continues to strengthen and takes aim at the Southeast Coast, a Londonderry resident prepares to volunteer with Red Cross to help with preparation efforts. Mark Critz will deploy to Columbia, South Carolina, on Wednesday. He is getting ready to volunteer as logistics facilities supervisor to support a Red Cross shelter for those displaced in the hurricane.

While the exact path of Hurricane Dorian is uncertain, millions of people live in areas that could be impacted by wind, rain, flooding and a high storm surge, even if the storm does not make direct landfall on the coast, according to the Red Cross. To prepare, the agency is mobilizing hundreds of volunteers, 110 emergency response vehicles and 104 tractor trailer loads full of relief supplies. The Red Cross has also prepared additional blood products and stocked many hospitals to capacity, in Southeastern areas that are likely to be impacted by the hurricane, Red Cross officials said.

Residents who are in the path of Hurricane Dorian are urged to prepare for it now. The Red Cross encourages them to follow local news stations and be ready to evacuate quickly.
