Londonderry Now Accepting Plastic

Pay for town services using a credit card now and four other things you should know in Londonderry today.

1. Charging forward. The Londonderry Town Clerk recently posted an notice on the town website announcing the town is now accepting credit cards for all municipal services such as vehicle registration and dog licencing. The service is available both online and over the counter, and MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express are all accepted for any permit, property tax payment, motor vehicle registration, or dog license. 2. The weatherman says ... Today's forecasted high temperature is 74 degrees with a 40-percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms and an overnight low of 57 degrees. The chance of precipitation increases to 90-percent tonight.

3. On this day ... June 10, 1752, the iconic moment of Benjamin Franklin collecting an electrical charge in a Layden jar through his kite being struck by lightening occurred during an early-summer thunderstorm. According to History.com:

Franklin became interested in electricity in the mid-1740s, a time when much was still unknown on the topic, and spent almost a decade conducting electrical experiments. He coined a number of terms used today, including battery, conductor and electrician. He also invented the lightning rod, used to protect buildings and ships.

4. On the agenda. The lone listed Londonderry municipal or school district meeting scheduled for today is the Recreation Commission Meeting, which takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Sunnycrest Conference Room.
