Manchester Police Officers Respond To Unwanted Subject Who The AG Says Fired Gun

\MANCHESTER, NH — The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office and New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit are investigating an officer-involved shooting at the Fairfield Inn on South Porter Street in Manchester on Saturday.

The Manchester Fire Department was dispatched to the hotel at about 4:45 p.m. for a fire alarm activation. Firefighters were advised to wait for Manchester police to secure the scene.

Prior to the fire alarm activation, according to the Attorney General’s Office, Manchester Police were called by hotel staff to assist with an occupant who had refused to vacate his room after the designated checkout time.

Upon making contact with the adult male occupant inside the hotel room, the individual discharged a pistol at the officers. In response, one officer returned fire, striking the occupant. Officers immediately rendered medical aid at the scene.

A request was made for an AMR ambulance to respond to a person suffering from a gunshot wound. The person was treated and transported from the scene. The man is in stable condition, according to the Attorney General's Office.

During the incident, the fire sprinkler system activated, and water flowed from the fourth floor to the floors below. Firefighters shut the water off to the sprinkler system and assisted in mitigating the water damage.

On Saturday afternoon, the hotel displayed a sign at the entrance stating it was closed; however, guests continued to enter and exit the hotel. One worker at the hotel reported that the water had been shut off.

It is unclear how the incident began and how many officers were involved. Pursuant to protocol, the identity of the officer who used deadly force will not be disclosed until a formal interview takes place. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and when appropriate to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

State Police Major Crime arrived early evening and could be seen bringing crime scene processing equipment into the hotel. They concluded their on-scene investigation early Sunday morning.
