Monday Essentials: Aircraft Lands on Busy NH Highway

Here are TEN things you should know this week in Londonderry.

1. Goodbye to you. Just a reminder, Londonderry's popular summer Concerts on the Common series ended for the season last week, but never fear, it'll be back again next year!

2. Old is good!
 The 2013 Londonderry Old Home Day celebration kicks off on Wednesday and runs through Sunday. Find additional details here!

3. Now that's a sight to see. A Cessna Skyhawk, landed on Route 89 in the northbound lane Sunday at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday night. It was piloted by John F. Principe, 65, of WashingtonNH, and a passenger, Karl R. Kloeppel, 66, of Newport. The pilot told troopers that the aircraft lost power and as result he determined that the safest place to land was the highway. The pilot reported landing without incident. There were no injuries to the occupants or anyone on the ground, and there was no damage to the aircraft or to any vehicles on the ground. The plane was towed from the scene.

4. Welcome back! Londonderry High School alum and former gubernatorial candidate Kevin Smith returns to Londonderry this week to assume his new post as town manager. He is scheduled to begin work on Thursday, Aug. 15.

5. Buzz kill. The Town of Londonderry will be spraying to control adult mosquitoes for Old Home Days this Monday and Tuesday, from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. For a detailed list of spraying locations, click here.

6. Don't go there ... Well, you can, but you may have to wait as Londonderry Town Hall will be closed on Aug. 15, from 12-1 p.m.

7. Also ... beginning Sept. 3, the Londonderry Town Clerk/Tax Collector’s office will close at 4:45 p.m. daily.

8. The weatherman says ... Looks like another week of sunshine and beautiful weather in Londonderry. Today's forecasted high is 83 degrees, with a 10-percent chance of sprinkles in the morning, but otherwise partly cloudy skies.
