Monday Essentials: LHS Loses Mack Plaque to Pinkerton

1. TODAY'S FORECAST: Today will be foggy with a high of 71 followed by afternoon sun. Tonight will be clear with a low of 48.

2. LONDONDERRY LOSES MACK PLAQUE TOURNAMENT: The annual Mack Plaque tournament saw the Londonderry Lancers fall to the Pinkerton Astros this weekend, capped off by a 35-14 football loss on Pinkerton's home turf. LHS has not won the Mack Plaque since 2000.

3. PROGRAM AT LEACH LIBRARYSet out for a program of exploring adventures at the library on Monday, October 7 from 4:00- 5:00 p.m. From Viking seafarers to daring mountaineers, hear the stories of courageous people who dared to go where few had gone before. Each participant will leave with a journal to decorate at home so he/she can record his/her own adventures. This program is open to all ages, and space is limited to 90 people. Advance registration for this exciting program is required and began at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30. To register call 432-1127 or come by the Children’s Room.

4. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this day in 1994, a 22-year-old Texas A&M University student and born-again Christian named Ronald Shamburger kills Lori Ann Baker, a young woman whom he had briefly dated. Shamburger broke into Baker's College Station home as he had on several prior occasions, and was surprised to find Baker home and asleep. He shot her when he heard her roommate enter the house, killing her instantly.
