New Year Means Millennium Mile in Londonderry

Registration is still underway for the 2013 Millennium Mile, a Londonderry-based downhill road race.

The course starts on Mammoth Road at the front of Londonderry High School and shoots down the road toward Mack's Apples, ending at the Peabody Row intersection.

The race is filled with incentives for runners, including "dash for the cash" bonuses for those who cross the 1/4 mile ($50), 1/2 mile ($75) and 3/4 mile ($100) markers first.

According to the Millennium Running website, which is the organization that puts on the race, proceeds from the race go toward a scholarship fund that was established by co-founders Andy Downin, Matt Downin and John Mortimer.

The race has taken place since 1999, making this the 14th year of the event.

The course record of 3:51 was set by Scott Anderson in the first race. Amy Mortimer holds the women's record at 4:20, set in 2005.

Registration is available both online and on the day of the race, and will take place in the Londonderry High School gymnasium from 11 a.m to 1:45 p.m.

Registration online is $15 for adults and $10 for kids 11 and younger.

Race day registration is $20 for adults and $10 for kids 11 and younger.
