Team Patch Crushes the Cigna/Elliot 5K
Here are five things you should know today in Londonderry.

1. Race night. Thursday night was the 21st annual Cigna/Elliot Corporate 5K in Manchester – a night when thousands of runners and walkers hit the streets many representing the company they work for. For the second year in a row, Patch was represented by a small contingent of participants including Bedford Patch Editor Ryan O'Connor, Concord Patch Editor Tony Schinella, Merrimack Patch Editor Carolyn Dube and Associate Regional Editor Dan Tuohy. The winner of the race, Aschalew Meketa, 25, of New York, NY, completed the city course in 14:02. The first female finisher was Tufa Tigist, 26, of Bronx, NY. Get the full results on Coolrunning.com.
2. Weekend forecast. A mix of sun and rain is on tap for the next few days, according to the National Weather Service. It's looking like any rain coming our way will be out by the end of today, leaving sunny skies and warm temps for the weekend.
3. IAABO Basketball Officials Apprentice Class. The International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) Metro Board 117 is seeking interested basketball officials for its entry level apprentice program. Classes begin on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 6:30pm @ Alvirne High School in Hudson NH. Classes will run on consecutive Mondays culminating in a written test in November and floor test in February 2014. Successful candidates will be certified by IAABO and eligible to referee high school basketball games in the State of New Hampshire. Interested individuals should contact Dennis Murphy at 432-5533 or by e-mail at murphy.dennis.j@gmail.com. The cost of the school is $125.00 which includes a rule book, instruction and computer software.
