The trooper stopped in the breakdown lane on a traffic stop and was outside the vehicle when the crash occurred near Exit 4 on Monday.

LONDONDERRY, NH — A New Hampshire State Police trooper was fortunate to be outside his cruiser on a traffic stop when a car slammed into his cruiser on Interstate 93 on Monday.

The trooper was conducting a traffic stop in the southbound breakdown lane just north of Exit 4 on Monday at about 5:30 p.m. when a car traveling south slammed into the rear of the cruiser, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The car continued into the guardrail and off the side of the road. The trooper on the traffic stop called in, stating he needed Londonderry Fire and Rescue to respond because the car that hit him was smoking and catching fire. Other troopers arrived and used fire extinguishers to put the fire out quickly.

It is unknown now if the car's driver suffered any injuries; the trooper was not injured in the crash.
