5 Things: Blood Needed After Storms Slow Donations

1. Give blood. This week, Feb. 25 to 28, The American Red Cross Donor Center at 425 Reservoir Ave., Manchester, will be open an hour earlier, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. This is to hopefully make up for all of the blood lost this month due to the several snow storms. The Donor Center will also be open on Friday, March 1, from noon to 5 p.m. To make your appointment call 1-800-REDCROSS or go to redcrossblood.org. Walk ins are always welcome. There will be ski tickets and coupons for Chili’s Bar and Grill through Thursday. On Friday, donors will receive coupons from Subway and subs will be served all day. Blood donors can also go to St. John Neumann Church from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27 and donate there. Breakfast pizza from the Pizza Kitchen will be served.

2. Superhero Smash. Register now for Wednesday's Superhero Smash at the Merrimack Public Library from 2-3 p.m. Children ages 5 and older, and their caregivers, are invited to a Superhero Smash party. Activities will include making super-masks and medallions, stories and games featuring your favorite superheroes, and a Super-Villain Scavenger Hunt. 3. Write a letter to the editor. Do you have something to say about an issue in town? As candidates file for office, do you want to pen a letter of support? 5. Weather watch. Today's forecast calls for a nice day preceding a snowstorm with potential to drop 4-8 inches of snow. The National Weather Service is calling for partly sunny skies, with a high near 43. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Tonight, snow is likely, mainly after 4 a.m. Patchy fog between 4 and 5 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 30.
