“Veto Day” is almost here – December 17, 2025. On December 17, House and Senate members will vote on the Governor’s 10 vetoed bills. The Governor has authority to veto bills per the NH Constitution, Part II, Article 44.

Two-thirds of each legislative body is required to overturn a veto in New Hampshire. The chamber where the bill originated is where the vetoed bill will return to first. For example, a vetoed House bill will be returned to the House first, and a vetoed Senate bill will return to the Senate first.
This year, the Governor has vetoed the following ten bills:

- HB 115-FN AN ACT making temporary appropriations for the expenses and encumbrances of the state of New Hampshire
- HB 148 AN ACT permitting classification of individuals based on biological sex under certain circumstances.
- HB 319-FN AN ACT relative to the responsibility of local school districts to provide transportation for pupils in kindergarten
- HB 324-FN AN ACT relative to prohibiting obscene or harmful sexual materials in schools.
- HB 356 AN ACT enabling school districts to adopt partisan school district elections.
- HB 358 AN ACT relative to exemption from immunization requirements on the basis of religious belief.
- HB 446 AN ACT relative to parental notice for non-academic surveys in public schools
- HB 475 AN ACT relative to the reductions from the default budget for official ballot town meetings.
- HB 667-FN AN ACT relative to health education and requiring the viewing of certain videos demonstrating gestational development.
- HB 781-FN AN ACT requiring school districts to adopt policies establishing a cell phone-free education.

A special “thank you” to the Merrimack Parks and Recreation for hosting another wonderful Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting on December 7, 2025.
Wreaths Across America will be held at noon on December 13, 2025 at Last Rest Cemetery in Merrimack.
