5 Things: Get Your Library Fines Waived
February is a fine amnesty month used to drive return of long overdue books and get people with fines they can't afford to start using the library again.

1. Fine forgiveness. The Merrimack Public Library is using the month February for a "Bring Back the Books" initiative. Throughout the month Merrimack Library cardholders can return overdue items and have outstanding overdue fines waived.” The two primary goals of “Bring Back the Books” are to re-engage users who have accumulated fines they can’t pay and to get back long overdue materials. Fine amnesty applies only to overdue fines of Merrimack cardholders; fees for damaged or lost items stay intact. 2. Planning Board to meet. The Merrimack Planning Board will meet tonight in the Matthew Thornton Room at Town Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. As part of the agenda, they will speak with representatives from the John J. Flatley Co. regarding a proposal to subdivide its land adjacent to St. Gobain at the northern end of Daniel Webster Highway
3. Politics and Eggs. Fox News Chief Political Correspondent Carl Cameron will be the guest speaker at this morning's latest installment of “Politics & Eggs” at The New Hampshire Institute of Politics on the campus of Saint Anselm College in Manchester. Cameron is expected to discuss the outcome of the 2012 Presidential election and examine the potential 2016 field of candidates. This event, which begins at 8 a.m., is open to New England Council members and event sponsors.

4. Gubernatorial nomination. Gov. Maggie Hassan announced Monday her nomination of Jeffrey Rose of Goffstown to serve as the new Commissioner of the Department of Resources and Economic Development. In her blog post on Patch, which you can Hassan says "Since 2004, Rose has worked for BAE Systems, one of New Hampshire’s largest employers, in numerous government relations and public affairs roles, currently serving as Director of Public Affairs for BAE’s Electronic Systems (ES) Sector. Rose has also served as chair of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce and played active roles in the Business and Industry Association and New England Council. He began his work in New Hampshire as a special assistant to Congressman John E. Sununu, going on to serve as projects director for U.S. Senator Bob Smith and state director for Congressman Jeb Bradley."
5. Weather watch. Snow showers may be in the forecast after midnight tonight, according to the National Weather Service, but no significant accumulation is expected. Today is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high near 27. Tonight will also be cloudy with a low near 18.
