5 Things to do in the Region This Weekend

Wine tasting, coin collection, free throw tournament, psychic fair and Ground Hog Day celebration, a little something for everyone.

1. Free throw championship. All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2013 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.  The local competition will be held on Saturday, February 2, from 1:30 to 3:00 PM at St. John Neumann Gym, 708 Milford Road, (Route 101A, behind McDonald’s), in Merrimack.  There is no cost to participate in this event.  For additional information contact Peter Gendron at 424-6494 or pjgendron@myfairpoint.net.

2. Wine tasting. Join WineNot Boutique in Nashua on Friday, Feb.1, from 6:30-8:30p.m. for “Big 6 Wine Grapes” wine tasting. Tasting is $30. Eighty percent of the quality wines sold in this country are made from six grape varieties. WineNot will conduct a tasting of one example of each of the six wine varietals from different regions of the world. Learn to identify each wine just by sight and smell.

3. Coin collectors unite. The New Hampshire Coin & Currency Expo is on this weekend at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester. Buy, sell and trade rare coins, U.S. and foreign, too! Educational exhibits, free guest speakers, and a free children's introduction to  coin collecting program on Saturday, at 10 a.m. Free verbal appraisals For more information, visit their web site.

4. I predict you'll go! Join the Winter Psychic Fair at the Hampton Inn in Nashua on Saturday for a day of low cost psychic guidance. While you are enjoying the day take advantage of the exhibits which will be offering a variety of unique services, and other products. Jewelry, crystals, massage, EFT, soy candles, lotions, soaps, and more. Psychic readings will be available for $25. Hourly door prizes throughout the day.

5. See a shadow? Join the Beaver Brook Association Nature Center in Hollis Saturday morning from 10 a.m.-noon for a Groundhog Day celebration! Come enjoy a puppet show about New England Wildlife "Get Ready for Winter," which teaches about migration, hibernation and adaptations needed by wildlife to survive winter.  The main character, the Woodchuck, attempts not to hibernate this winter. See what happens! After looking over some real animal mounts, furs, and tracks, we'll head out for a hike on the trails at Beaver Brook to find evidence of animal activities in winter.
