5 Ways to Enjoy Your Weekend

Check out these events around Southern New Hampshire Feb. 15 and 16.

1. Valentine's Tea. Join St. James United Methodist Church on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 2-4 p.m. for its annual St. Valentine's Tea. Enjoy homemade sandwiches and pastries– including gluten-free options. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for kids and may be purchased at the door on the day of the event, however, reservations are recommended by calling the church office at 424-7459. The office hours are Tuesday - Friday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. SJUMC is at 646 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack. This event was rescheduled from Feb. 9 due to the winter storm.

2. Moonlight hike. Enjoy an evening out in the fields and forests of Hollis with someone special. Take a night hike and snowshoe through the trails at Beaver Brook, 117 Ridge Road, Hollis, on Friday, Feb. 15. Investigate the magic of nature at night. Dress in layers and wear sturdy warm hiking boots.  Brings hiking poles, or your own crampons or snowshoes if you prefer yours. Crampons and snowshoes will also be available for you to use. Hike for 1.5 hours and return to the Beaver Brook Yurt to enjoy warm refreshments, chocolates and homemade sweets. Hike starts at 7 p.m. $25 per couple or $22 if you are a Friends of BBA member. 3. Ladies night. Gather up your girlfriend for the return of ladies night at the Red River Theatre with a showing of "Clueless" a fun and quirky modern day retelling of Jane Austin's beloved novel Emma. Red River Theatre's quarterly Ladies Nights are a great way to spend a night out! Movie starts at TK on Friday, Feb. 15. Cost is $12. Red River Theatre is at 11 S. Main St., Concord.

4. Kid fun. New Hampshire entertainers Steve Blunt an Marty Kelley will perform an afternoon show at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry on Saturday, Feb. 16. Blunt and Kelley offer sing-along, read-aloud, laugh-a-lot fun for the whole family. They will present a rollicking mix of stories and songs on guitar, harmonica, djembe, etc.—with originality and humor. Additional musical accompaniment will be provided by multi-instrumentalist Joey Pierog. Show starts at noon and tickets are $7. Get more information at SteveBlunt.com, MartyKelley.com. 5. Sandy Hook benefit. Milly's Tavern is bringing together the best hip hop artists of New Hampshire to raise money to help the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that took place in December. All proceeds raised will be directly donated to the Newtown Memorial Fund, a nonprofit organization involved in helping the victims families with funeral arrangements and therapy. Artists performing include: APE the GRIM, N.E.R.S, P$ikwable, Lb, MarcusBlack, Grizzly Bear Music, Nikki Blac, 8-Bza, Constantino and The Chosen Few.
