At the Library: Mummies, Magic, Pirates and More

Each week, there are a number of free community activities at the Merrimack Public Library for residents of all ages. From book groups and story times to special evening presentations and opportunities to brush up on reading skills. Plus, during the summer there are whole lot of extras that come as part of the summer reading program. Online registration for activities is available at MerrimackLibrary.org. You can also register in person or by phone at 424-5021. Adult library card needed to register for activities.

Preschool Storytime (Drop-in) 

Monday, July 22, 2013, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

A 45 minute school-readiness literacy class with a weekly theme. Some activities include reading picture books, making crafts or playing simple games. These activities are designed to teach children listening comprehension skills, letter and shape recognition, new vocabulary words, as well as improve gross and fine motor skills and introduce helpful social skills. This program is open to Merrimack Library cardholders ages 3-6 years. No registration is needed; just drop-in.

Never Land Pirates Party 

Tuesday, July 23, 2013, 3-4 p.m.

Shiver me timbers, it's a pirate party! Dig for treasure, walk the plank, hunt for crocodile, and enjoy some swashbuckling stories! For children ages 3+ and a caregiver.

Readers of the Lost Book Magic Show 

Tuesday, July 23, 2013, 6:30-7:15 p.m.

Come enjoy magician Mike Bent, as he leads us through an exciting exploration of your favorite books, with puppets, mind-reading ants, loads of laughs, and a whole lot of magic! Recommended for ages 5 and older with a caregiver (but younger siblings welcome).

This program is supported in part by the US Institute of Museum and Library Services, donations from the Byrne Foundation, CHILIS, Cogswell Benevolent Trust, and the NH Library Association.

Magic Tree House - Mummies in the Morning

Come celebrate the Magic Tree House book Mummies in the Morning, with stories, games, snacks, and a craft, all inspired by the mystery and grandeur of Egypt! For ages 6-9.

Mother Goose Storytime (Drop-in) 

Thursday, July 25, 2013, 10:15-10:45 a.m.

A 30 minute early literacy class of stories, fingerplays, rhymes and songs. For children ages 6-24 months with an adult caregiver; no registration required. This program is open to Merrimack Library cardholders.

City of Bones Party 

Thursday, July 25, 2013, 3-5 p.m.  

Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to celebrate Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" series, in anticipation of the movie version of "City of Bones" arriving this summer. Enjoy snacks inspired by the series, compete in trivia about the book, get "tattooed" like the Shadowhunters, and learn about the Steampunk culture that inspired the books and others like it.

Family Roots: Genealogy Resources @ Your Library

Thursday, July 25, 2013, 7-8:30 p.m. 

This is the last of three workshops in a series hosted by local genealogy enthusiast Marc Nozell.

The library gives you free access to commercial genealogy resources such as ancestry.com and americanancestry.org. Learn how these tools as well as newspaper, government and history sites can help you dig deeper into your family's history.

Bring a laptop or use one of the library's.

For adults and older teens. Registration is helpful for planning purposes.

Storytime in the Park
