Cyanobacteria Warning Remains in Place, Resampling Wednesday

Toxic bacteria bloom were discovered about a week ago.

A cyanobacteria warning issued last week remains in place on Horseshoe Pond in Merrimack, but a resampling of the water is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24.

A possible toxin-producing cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom was spotted around the pond last week. Blue-green clouds have been reported in areas all around the pond prompting the warning to avoid contact with the water in areas experiencing bloom conditions. Pets should also be kept out of the water.

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services will resample the pond on Wednesday and decide if it is safe to lift the warning.

Visit the DES Beach Program website for photos and more information about cyanobacteria.
