Dog Left In 139-Degree Car In Merrimack, Police Say

Merrimack police said Mark McNally left his dog in a hot car that hit nearly 140 degrees in an outlet mall parking lot.

MERRIMACK, NH — A Massachusetts man was arrested this week after Merrimack police said he left his dog in a 139-degree car in an outlet mall parking lot. Mark McNally (pictured), 22, of North Andover, was charged with leaving animal in a hot car and released on $500 bond. Merrimack Police Chief Denise Roy said officers were dispatched to the Merrimack Premium Outlets Monday at about 1:30 p.m. after a witness reported seeing the dog in distress.

"Officers made contact with the dog and observed obvious signs of distress," Roy said in a statement. "The weather at the time of the incident was hot and humid with temperatures near 90 degrees ... Officers were able to determine the temperature inside the vehicle was between 134-139 degrees."

Roy added, "Officers were able to gain entry to the vehicle and took custody of the dog."

Officers then encountered McNally and placed him under arrest, Roy said. He is due in Merrimack District Court September 10 to answer to his charge.
