Footprints in Snow Tie Driver to Accident

Alleged drunk driver left footprints in the snow while leaving the scene of an accident. When he returned wearing the same sneakers, police arrested him.

A Merrimack man who walked away from the scene of an accident Sunday, leaving a trail of footprints behind in the freshly-fallen snow, was arrested a short time later when he returned to the scene of the accident wearing the same sneakers he left the tracks with.

Alexander Mavrogeorge, 25, of 21 London Court, Merrimack, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor and conduct after an accident after he allegedly crashed his 1996 Dodge pickup truck into a PSNH utility pole near Reeds Ferry Lumber on Daniel Webster Highway early Sunday morning.

Police say when they responded to the single vehicle accident, the truck was empty and while no one was around, a set of footprints in new snow led police to the parking lot of the London Court Apartments.

A short time later, Mavrogeorge returned to the scene where he denied having driven his truck earlier, but his sneakers told police a different story.

Mavrogeorge was arrested and released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail he will appear in the 9th Circuit Court District Division in Merrimack on March 7,  to answer to the charges.
