Merrimack's community garden plots are in glorious bloom over in Wasserman Park. Row after row and plot after plot, the gardens are full of vegetation with flowers and vegetables galore, and decorated with colorful accessories like pinwheels decorative garden stakes and more.
The Community Garden is an opportunity for residents and non-residents seeking to grow pretty and tasty things to do so for a low rental fee for the plot from spring until fall.
A water spigot is available for gardeners to fill watering cans to tend to their plots.
With everything from ears of corn to eggplant, tomatoes to loads of colorful flowers, a lot of love has been given to these gardens (not to mention a lot of hot sun and rain).
The Community Garden is located in between the entrance and exit roads at Wasserman Park, between the road and the lake parking lots.
Wasserman Park is at 116 Naticook Road, which is accessed from the north via Amherst Road and from the south off of Continental Boulevard.
A little history on the Community Garden, an initative of the Merrimack Agricultural Commission from its website:
In 2009, the Merrimack Agricultural Commission wanted to find an area where residents could maintain individual gardens.
The hope was that residents who did not have access to a garden could grow their own vegetables and flowers in a public area, making new friends and learning about agriculture in Merrimack.
Finding a suitable garden location was done with the help of the Parks and Recreation Department. Once a plot of land in Wasserman Park was identified, the garden rules were determined with help from the Town Council.
