Goal of Two New Hampshire Girls: A Selfie With Every 2016 Presidential Candidate

They got a big one on Tuesday.

When Donald Trump was campaigning in New Hampshire two weeks ago, he walked through a crowd held back by ropes and tape.

There were two people waiting for him in the middle of the path, separated from the masses gathered in Weirs Beach. They weren’t campaign staffers, aides or wealthy businessmen.

They were two girls from Merrimack, waiting to take a selfie.

“And Donald Trump was like ‘all right, let’s take a selfie,’” said Addy Nozell.

Addy and her sister Emma have turned what started off as a joke into a massive project to get a selfie with every 2016 presidential candidate.

Their Twitter account, @PrezSelfieGirls, has gained the girls national attention. And on Tuesday, they landed their biggest target to date: Hillary Clinton.

So far, the girls have snapped selfies with every candidate except Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Jim Webb and Bernie Sanders.

Their first get was New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

“I took a photo with Chris Christie at one of his events, because why not?” Emma said. “Once we got in the car, Addy decided, why not get them with everyone? So that’s how it started. It started as a joke, but now everyone’s taking it very seriously.”

Very seriously.

They were set to take a picture with Rubio, but he had to cancel the event because he was sick. Someone from Rubio staff reached out to the family to apologize and assure them he would take one next time he was back.

Even the anti-selfie candidate was not immune.

In April, Ben Carson called selfies “dangerous” and lamented that they reek of “obvious narcissism.”

That didn’t deter the girls.

“I went up to him and said, ‘I know you don’t like selfies, but I’m doing this project with everyone who’s running, and I was wondering if you could take a selfie with me,’” Emma said. “And he did. I just thought that was so amazing.”

They’ve already scoped out their next target. Sanders is scheduled to be in Manchester on Saturday.

And while their political knowledge may be greater than anyone else their age, Addy says they won’t get into the political commentary business.

“Just the selfie business.”
