Man With Burns Transported After Arriving At Merrimack Fire Station

A fire was discovered at 1:30 a.m. in storage containers a short distance away; someone may have been living in one of the containers.

MERRIMACK, NH — The Merrimack Fire Department was notified of an injured man outside of fire headquarters on Daniel Webster Highway on Thursday around 1:30 a.m.

Police and firefighters began medical treatment of a man who had injuries, including burns after treatment at the scene, he was transported to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. Immediately after the man arrived, firefighters were dispatched to an industrial park's large storage area along the Merrimack River. When they arrived, they had smoke and fire showing from a storage container and requested additional personnel and apparatus.

Firefighters found significant fire damage to one container and cut locks from multiple storage containers, finding collateral fire damage inside the adjacent containers.

The New Hampshire Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to assist Merrimack Fire with the investigation. On Thursday morning, two investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office and three people from Merrimack Fire were at the scene.

Investigators dug through burnt debris in the container with the most severe damage. Several household items could be seen burnt, and it appeared the container could have been set up as a living space.

After digging through debris, a significantly damaged propane space heater, and propane tank were removed from the container. Investigators closely examined the heater and took photographs. A propane tank with the remains of the connector was placed next to the heater. In addition to the heater and propane tank shelves, furniture and several aerosol-type containers were removed from the container.

As personnel from a local business arrived, fire investigators gathered evidence and then closed off a large area with Fire Marshal crime scene tape.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office, Merrimack Fire, and Merrimack police.

No information on the severity of injuries to the victim who was transported is available at this time.
