Merrimack Firefighters Use Jaws Of Life To Remove Victim In Crash

MERRIMACK, NH — Merrimack fire rescue and police responded to Back River Road on Monday for a reported two-vehicle accident with possible entrapment.

Police and firefighters arrived at the scene at about 8:45 p.m. and found one vehicle with heavy damage and a man trapped inside. The second vehicle had minor damage and everyone was out of the vehicle.

Back River Road was shut down and firefighters began working on extricating the man. Firefighters used jaws of life, cutting tools, and other hydraulic tools in an effort to remove the him from the car.

A Merrimack paramedic at the scene administered treatment to the man while he was still trapped and firefighters continued to work on cutting the roof off the vehicle to access the patient. Merrimack firefighters requested a trauma alert was requested at the Elliot Hospital for a man with serious lower extremity injuries.

After about 40 minutes, the victim was removed from the car and transported to the hospital. A second person was also transported from the scene with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Witnesses at the scene said the white vehicle was traveling north on Back River Road and went onto a lawn, hit a fence, trees, and a large rock before coming to a stop. The second vehicle appears to have minor damage and appears to have been struck by the white vehicle as it came to a stop.

The accident is being investigated by Merrimack police and no information on the names or ages of the victims were not available at this time.
