Merrimack Man Opening Portsmouth Deli

For South End residents who miss the former Red Ginger market, they will soon be able to enjoy a taste of Italy this spring.

Napoli Market & Deli owner Terry Grant is currently renovating the interior portion of the building located at 261 South St. after he obtained a building permit from the city earlier this month.

Grant, a Merrimack resident, is renovating the flooring, bathroom and the retail and food prep areas. When he opens the new market and deli, it will feature everything from expresso coffee, cannolis and pasta to soup and sandwiches. On Monday afternoon, he said he also plans to offer local specialty items that are sold at the weekly Portsmouth Farmer's Market and from local Seacoast area businesses.

When asked why he chose to go with an Italian theme for his new market, Grant said, "The area really doesn't have anything like that. We've been getting great feedback from everybody."

He said the name "Napoli" was also inspired by his mother, who comes from Naples, Italy. Grant said his family currently resides in Merrimack however, they will be move to the Portsmouth area soon. He said he is shooting for an early May opening.

The new eatery is also located just a short walk from the city municipal complex, which means he could get a lot of business from city workers during their lunch break. The new market and deli's Facebook page contains a lot of photos of the renovation work that he has completed thus far along with more information about his new business.
