Merrimack Resident Gets Opportunity to Sing at Fenway

Morning news and notes for Sept. 26.

Fenway fun. A Merrimack man, part of the award-winning quartet Average Joes, got to be part of the  Carl Yastrzemski statue unveiling ceremony before the Sept. 22 Red Sox game.The quartet (Eric Ruthenberg of Merrimack, Matt Mercier of Hooksett, Kirk Young of Tilton, and Marc Rosenbaum of Sudbury, Mass.) spent the day entertaining in and around Fenway before kicking off the final home game of the season. Town Council to meet. The Town Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the Matthew Thornton Room on Thursday, Sept. 26. On the agenda are discussions about land clearing at Wasserman Park for the proposed dog park and an update on the second-hand trailer at the Merrimack Transfer Station, among other things. Get the full agenda on the town website.

Weather watch. Looking for a sunny, warm day? You got it. Today's forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 70 degrees. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 47. The forecast for the next several days looks to be much of the same. Enjoy it!

Postage price hike? The United States Postal Service, facing the possibility of losing $6 billion this year, is considering a price hike of first-class stamps from 46 cents to 49 cents, according to a story in the Los Angeles Times. It's expected the price increase, the largest one-time increase since 2002, would generate $2 billion more in revenue. If the price increase goes through, it would go into effect in January.

Merrimack Rocks over the top. Hail to the police. The New England Police Benevolent Association, Local 12, Merrimack's Police Association on Wednesday threw in another donation to Merrimack Rocks, on top of a previous one, that organizer Dave McCray said pushed the fundraising drive over the top.
