Merrimack Woman Charged With Stealing Cart of Groceries

The following information was provided by Merrimack Police. An arrest does not indicated a conviction.

A Merrimack woman was arrested for allegedly walking out of Shaw's with a shopping cart full of groceries that she didn't pay for.

Kayla M. Rice, 24, of 251 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, was charged with theft by unauthorized taking on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

According to police, they issued a warrant for Rice as a result of an investigation that began on Aug. 18, when police were called to Shaw's on Continental Boulevard around 10 a.m. for a report of a woman who loaded her cart with $101.62 worth of groceries, walked out of the store, loaded the groceries in her car and left.

Upon further follow-up with witnesses and loss prevention representatives, the female was identified as Rice and a warrant for her arrest was completed.  Rice surrendered herself to police. She was released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear before the Merrimack district court on Oct. 22.
