Monday Essentials: Fire Open House is Thursday

News and information you should know as you start your week.

Thursday deadline. Interested in taking adult education classes at Merrimack High School?  Most classes start the week of Oct. 7 and registrations are due by Thursday, Oct. 3. Adult Education course lists and registration forms can be found here.

Fire Open House.
As part of National Fire Safety Week, the Merrimack Fire Department will hold its annual open house from 4-8 p.m. at the Central Fire Station on Daniel Webster Highway. Open house activities will include fire extinguisher demonstrations, an automobile extrication demonstration with the “Jaws of Life” and several EMS demonstrations, a live fire demonstration showing the differences between a sprinkled and non-sprinkled room, and automobile air bag safety demonstrations, a demonstration with police K-9 Gunny, and more. No planning board meeting.
The planning board meeting that had been scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 1 has been canceled. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Summer-like weather.
Your weather preview for the week is looking like we might get a re-emergence of summer as the National Weather Service's forecast is calling for sunny or mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. It's looking like Wednesday could even climb into the 80s.

Grow Local, Eat Local. The NH Food Bank will host "Grow Local-Eat Local Celebration, Little Plates...Big Results". This signature culinary tasting event benefiting the NH Food Bank's Recipe For Success programs will feature some of NH's finest chefs preparing distinctive dishes using seasonal and locally produced foods. Join Gov. Maggie Hassan and 300 enthusiasts of local agriculture as they enjoy unique and creative cuisine. The evening will offer attendees the opportunity to chat with chefs about the art of cooking and local farmers about the foods they produce. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn more about the New Hampshire Food Bank and the New Hampshire Farm to Restaurant Connection. Event partners include: NH Restaurant Chefs, NH Farms, NH Farm to Restaurant Connection, Pete & Gerry's Organic Eggs and the NH Department of Agriculture, Markets and Food.
