Coding for Kids is a partnership between Nashua Community College and Simply Coding; an organization providing self-paced interactive online curriculum for kids.

“This is a great enrichment activity for both middle and high school-aged students,” said Kim Eckenrode, computer training coordinator at Nashua Community College, “Coding for Kids is also 100 percent online, making it easy to fit into a student’s schedule.”

Students purchase a 1-year Single Membership for $99, or a Family Membership for $179 for up to 3 people that can be renewed year-to-year. The program guides students as they learn to code their own video games; including designing avatars, scenery, and game premises.

Coding for Kids works as a fun extracurricular activity as well as an academic enhancement, said Eckenrode, “It satisfies the curiosity of students who are interested in developing their own video games, and it also helps older students explore a future career in coding to see if it is a good fit.”

The program has also helped Computer Science students round out their knowledge, said Eckenrode, “High School-aged students seeking more in-depth experience with Java to prepare for the Computer Science AP exam get the guided preparation they need.”

While Coding for Kids is self-paced, it does provide remote mentor support through the "Pure Chat" function for those looking for additional guidance. And all necessary accompanying software is available for free download with the cost of membership.
