Police Arrest Pair Allegedy Caught Rummaging Through Cars

Two men were arrested in Merrimack early Saturday morning on theft, criminal trespassing and prowling charges after a caller from a condo complex in town reported they'd been rummaging through cars.
Eric McGonagle, 25, of 162 Back River Road, Bedford, and Randy Luffman, 24, of 31339 Old Ocean City Road Salisbury, Md., were each charged with prowling, criminal trespassing, two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, and theft by unauthorized taking of a firearm.
Police say they were called to Rocky Ledge in the Bradford Woods condo complex around 12:20 a.m. on Oct. 5, by a man who two people were going through cars in the parking lot. When he yelled to them, they ran off into an adjoining neighborhood. The caller told police he found the pair on Fairway Drive while checking the area for the two men.

When police arrived on scene, they say they found the two subjects as described, both who appeared visibly nervous. When asked about why they were in the neighborhood police say they were unable to provide an good reason.
While they were talking to the officer, another officer came upon a bag and some mail not far from where they two men were discovered. The bag contained a variety of items that led police to place them under arrest.

Police say among the items the men allegedly took was a gun.
McGonagle and Luffman were each placed on $5,000 cash or surety bail that they could not post. They were transported to the Hillsborough County House of Correction pending arraignment in Merrimack's district court on Oct. 7.
