Social Security planning for Baby Boomers. Are you part of the Baby Boomer generation wondering how to go about collecting Social Security? Join the Merrimack Public Library on Wednesday for a presentation by local retirement planners, George and Steve Pessoti, members of the Society for Financial Awareness (SOFA), about Social Security planning including topics such as the best age to start collecting benefits (62? 66? or 70?), filing and suspending and how spouses can collect 50 percent of your benefit, and estate planning. Event is open to library card holders and will run on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Register for the event on the library website, in person or via phone (424-5029). Only eight spaces left. The free program does not promote any specific financial products.
Hours notification. Clients of Merrimack Veterinary Hospital be aware: The hospital will be closed from 1-5 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 1, for staff training. They will be open Wednesday for normal hours.
ICYMI. Last week a young man from Windham who attended UNH went missing in the Portsmouth area. Sadly, over the weekend, a body was found in the water in the area of Prescott Park and on Monday, authorities confirmed the body was that of the missing man, Jonathan Zygmont. Help raise money for breast cancer research. Southern New Hampshire Medical Center's social media charity campaign for the month of October is going to help fund breast cancer research. According to the area hospital, for each new like it receives on Facebook this month, the SNHMC will donate a dollar to the New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition. What a worthy cause!
