Shaw's to Close 6 NH Stores

Check out these essential bits and bytes over your morning cup of coffee.

Supermarket sweep. Six Shaw's supermarkets will close by Sept. 2 as part of an effort to increase overall company profitability, according to WMUR, though neither Merrimack store is on the list. WMUR has reported that the Seabrook, Goffstown, Manchester, Tilton, West Lebanon and Keene locations "have not been profitable for some time." A Shaw's spokesman told WMUR that the closures "are not a result of the overall health of the company" and that the company doesn't have plans to close any of the other 28 New Hampshire locations, including the one in North Hampton. The decision comes roughly one month after the chain announced it would end its rewards card program and cut prices across the company.
