Speed Leads to Marijuana Charge

Merrimack police arrested a Massachusetts man on charges of possession of and transporting marijuana.

Richard Tonks, 20, of 51 Rocky Hill Road, Andover, Mass., was Tonks was released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail and has a May 20 arraignment date in the 9th Circuit Court, Merrimack.

The charges were filed after Merrimack Police Officer Steve Wallin stopped Tonks for a speeding violation on Route 101-A, police said.

According to the police report, the officer smelled an odor of marijuana coming from inside the car and a brief investigation led to the charges based on Tonks being in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
