Storm Causes Crashes, Power Outages in NH

The Everett Turnpike near Exit 13 northbound was shut down around 9:30 a.m. because of an accident.

An multi-vehicle accident on the Everett Turnpike northbound, just north of Exit 13 has shut down at least part of the highway according to news alerts sent around 9:30 a.m.

At least one person needed to be transported from the scene.

As snow continues to fall around Southern New Hampshire, police are warning residents to stay in if possible and if they must be on the roads, to take it slow.

A total of 1,960 PSNH customers have no electricity, mostly in Londonderry Manchester and Litchfield. No outages have been reported yet in Merrimack.

Unitil and the New Hampshire Electric Co-op are reporting no outages at this hour, but that could change as the heavy, wet snow continues to fall. Some areas have already gotten as many as 6 inches of snow.

Reports are that major highways and back roads alike are pretty slippery, and the maximum speed limit on roads like Interstate 93, Interstate 95, the Everett Turnpike and Route 101 has been reduced to 45 mph.

The Eagle-Tribune is reporting that there is about a 30-mile backup on I-93 south due to the storm.

There have been several reports of crashes throughout southern New Hampshire, including on the Everett Turnpike in Nashua between exits 7 and 8, on I-95 north in Hampton, the Spaulding Turnpike south in Dover, and Route 101 east in Raymond. Accidents have also been reported in Hillsboro, Boscawen Meredith and Epsom.

Merrimack, as well as many schools throughout southern New Hampshire are also closed today due to the storm, which falls exactly one month from the the blizzard that hit the state in February. Snow totals are not expected to reach the same level as February's storm.
