What's at the Library: June 10-16

Summer hours start at the Merrimack Public Library on Sunday, June 17.

Each week there are a number of free community activities at the Merrimack Public Library for residents of all ages. From book groups and story times to special evening presentations and opportunities to brush up on reading skills. Online registration for activities is available at MerrimackLibrary.org. You can also register in person or by phone at 424-5021. Adult library card needed to register for activities.

A reminder that summer hours start at the library on Sunday, meaning the library will be closed on Sundays beginning on June 16. Below are the summer hours:

 June 16 - Sept. 7, 2013 Monday - Thursday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sunday Closed

Kids Summer Reading Challenge

Register your child here for the 2013 Kids Summer Reading Challenge "Dig Into Reading." Participants keep track of their reading time in 15 minute increments on the reading log. Once they have completed a log, turn it in for a free book and other prizes!

Teen Summer Reading Challenge

Register here for the 2013 Teen Summer Reading Challenge "Beneath the Surface." Keep track of your reading time in 15 minute increments on the reading log, listing the titles of your reading as well. Once you have completed a log, turn it in for a free book and other prizes! Turn in up to 3 logs to earn 3 books.

Advanced Beginners Book Group

Time: 6:30  -  7:30 p.m.

This monthly book group is for ages 6-8 with an adult, and focuses on long picture books and short beginners' chapter books. Sign-up and pick up this month's title at the library, and join us at this monthly meeting to discuss the story, make a complimentary craft, and enjoy some snacks! This month's book is Martin Bridge On the Lookout! by Jessica Scott Kerrins

Writer's Group

Inspired by our NaNoWriMo participants, we have formed a new monthly meeting for adult writers. New and experienced writers are invited to share their work and give feedback to others. Registration helpful but not required.

A Piano in Every Room 

Time: 7  -  8:30 p.m.

Rosamond van der Linde, who, with her husband Rein, founded the Sonatina School of Music in Bennington, VT, will tell the astonishing tale of a family of seven pianists living in a 42-room house with 35 pianos. Their music camps for adults and children grew into six music schools in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean. This remarkable family has mentored and taught thousand of piano students, many of whom have gone on to win competitions and awards. Their story will delight and amaze you. Copies of Ms. Van der Linde’s book, A Piano in Every Room, will be for sale for cash or personal check. This program is suitable for adults and teens. Registration is strongly advised

Donuts with Dad - A Fathers Day Storytime

Time: 10:30  -  11:15 a.m.

Dads, Grandpas and kids of all ages are invited for this Fathers' Day storytime. We'll read stories, sing some songs and make a craft, with donuts and beverages at the end of the program. (Moms welcome too!). Children under 5 may need help assembling the craft.
