
Each week there are a number of free community activities at the Merrimack Public Library for residents of all ages. From book groups and story times to special evening presentations and opportunities to brush up on reading skills. Online registration for activities is available at MerrimackLibrary.org. You can also register in person or by phone at 424-5021. Adult library card needed to register for activities.

Kids Summer Reading Challenge
Register your child here for the 2013 Kids Summer Reading Challenge "Dig Into Reading." Participants keep track of their reading time in 15 minute increments on the reading log. Once they have completed a log, turn it in for a free book and other prizes!

Teen Summer Reading Challenge
Register here for the 2013 Teen Summer Reading Challenge "Beneath the Surface." Keep track of your reading time in 15 minute increments on the reading log, listing the titles of your reading as well. Once you have completed a log, turn it in for a free book and other prizes! Turn in up to 3 logs to earn 3 books.

Family Book Group
Time: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
This monthly book group is for ages 8 and older with an adult. Sign-up and pick up this month's book at the library, and join us at this monthly meeting to discuss the story, make a complimentary craft, and enjoy some snacks.
This month's book is Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. Extra copies of the book are available in the Children's Room.

Summer Reading Kickoff and Concert at the Park!
Time: 6-8:30 p.m.
Join the library for its Summer Reading Kickoff – this year, in conjunction with the Merrimack Summer Concert Series at Abbie Griffin Park! At 6 p.m., summer reading participants can pick up a hot-dog and chips supper, along with balloons and face-painting. Then settle down in your lawn-chairs and picnic blankets for a family concert at 6:30, featuring the songs and stories of Hunt and Allison! In case of rain this event moves to the high school cafeteria.

Mother Goose Time (Drop-in)
A 30 minute early literacy class of stories, fingerplays, rhymes and songs. For children ages 6-24 months with an adult caregiver; no registration required. This program is open to Merrimack Library cardholders.

Teen Kickoff Party - Beneath the Surface
Time: 3-5 p.m.
Teens in grades 6 through 12 are invited to start the Summer Reading Challenge off with a bang at our Beneath the Surface Kickoff Party. What are you about beneath the surface? Whether you're an artist, a gamer, a fashionista, a foodie, a musician, or haven't figured it out yet, this is the party for you:
- Stuff yourself at the Fondue Food Bar
- Create an art journal for doodles or writing.
- Make some button pins or key chains to express your style and ideals.
- Relax with some video and/or board games (or bring your trading cards).
- If you play an instrument, bring it along to jam!
Anything goes at this party because it's all about you! Registration is preferred so that we have enough food and drink!

Family Roots: Intro to Genealogy
Time: 7-8:30 p.m.
Learn how to get started researching your family's roots with genealogy enthusiast Marc Nozell. Find out about citing sources. Try out the library's Ancestry.com account. This is the first in a series of three workshops. Plan to attend one or more. (June 27, July 11, July 25)
For adults and older teens. Registration is helpful for planning purposes.
