Milford Fire Department Update #2

As the black of night gives way to a dark grey, swirling snow and the flashing amber lights of clean-up crews; we yawn and stretch after a long night alert for hazards. Outside of some very deep snow and rather treacherous roadways, the overnight was uneventful. This pattern appears to be common across NH.
Watching the PSNH outage list throughout the night we don’t recall seeing more than 600 customers without power in NH (seemingly quickly resolved) while MA, RI and CT are reporting over 500,000 without power and this will probably expand as crews get out there to assess.

There are some serious drifts and continued drifting out there and the NWS says to expect another 4 to 6 inches of snow from the current bands. Please avoid driving (if you can) until noon-ish based upon our current roadway conditions and expected incoming snow. Staying off the roads also gives our DPW crews the best ability to clear the roads for you.

Have a warm and safe day.

We had a quick department head meeting this morning and we are all well prepared and while this is potentially a very serious event, there is frankly not much for us to do until the storm hits.

From the NWS (7:10AM today)
• Potentially historic winter storm/blizzard will impact southern New England today into Saturday.
• Blizzard warnings are in effect for all of CT, RI, E/SE MA, and SE NH. Winter storm warnings for all other locations in Southern New England.
• Snowfall totals for the storm may be in the all-time Top 10 for various cities, up to around 2 to 3 feet possible. Blowing and drifting is anticipated resulting in higher drifts.
• Travel conditions will deteriorate quickly through today becoming nearly impossible by this evenings commute into Saturday.

We have heard of many local businesses in town are closing early this afternoon and we appreciate that preparation. We would very much like to see everyone home and off the roads during the peak of this storm.

Please stay safe and warm. If there is anything that you need from us, please call 249-0680 (673-1414 after business hours) and of course 911 for any emergencies. We will post updates as necessary.

Expect the snow removal parking ban to stay in effect at least until Monday.

The Milford Fire Department says: "If I were a betting man, I would bet on there being a snow removal parking ban in effect for Friday night. Maybe even Saturday night too. Official notice will be made when it is announced but if you are impacted by these notices you may want to consider pre-planning your parking."
