College and Career Planning for Middle and High School Students
At Open House, middle school and high school underclassmen can get a head start on college planning with an Early College and Career Pathways presentation by the NHHEAF Network. The presentation will cover how students can explore their interests and aptitudes, and how these factors contribute to their college and career path. Attendees will learn how to prepare for the next steps in their college journey, including maximizing their time in high school. The presentation will also give a brief introduction to the college application and financial aid processes.
NCC’s Dual Enrollment Coordinator Michelle Grimm will be available to talk about opportunities for students to earn transferable college credit before graduating high school. Students can earn college credit for a fraction of the regular tuition cost with Dual Enrollment programs Running Start, Early College, and eStart. Classes may count toward both college and high school transcripts, pending approval from the student’s high school. High school students can use the Governor’s Scholarship to earn college credits for free. This includes STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) classes like statistics, physics, and accounting; and CTE (Career and Technical Education) courses like graphic design, automotive, and criminal justice. Contact Dual Enrollment Coordinator Michelle Grimm at 603.578.6915 or mgrimm@ccsnh.edu.
Career training
Career training courses run throughout the year, such as Microelectronics Boot Camp, Financial Services Training with Fidelity Investments, Big Data Developer, Front and Back End Coding Boot Camps, Medical Interpreter Training, and more.
New this spring, Fidelity Investments and NCC will begin a 12-week noncredit training pathway for careers in finance. The part-time, evening training prepares attendees to sit for the Security Industry Essentials exam, known as the SIE, which is one exam required by financial regulators for anyone helping customers with their investments. Candidates pivoting to a career in the financial services industry typically have to pass all required exams shortly after their hiring, but this program helps candidates succeed by giving them the advantage of having already prepared for and practiced taking the SIE. All students who complete the program are offered an interview with Fidelity. See more details at nashuacc.edu/fidelity.
New Transfer Pathway
NCC graduates can now continue seamlessly into a Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Science in Computing at Dorset College in Dublin, Ireland.
NCC also has a new Public Health Transfer Pathway with UMass Lowell. Graduates who earn an associate degree in Health Science with a public health pathway can now transfer seamlessly into the Public Health bachelor’s degree program at UMass Lowell.
