The New Hampshire House of Representatives voted 207-163 on March 6 to pass a bill that proposes raising the state's gas tax 15 cents over four years.
The bill was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee for review.
Supporters said the revenue raised would help pay for critical road and bridge improvements over the next decade. Opponents called it a burdensome tax increase on residents and businesses and while highway improvements are necessary, this bill is the wrong solution.

Amherst would get an estimated $1,082,772, which could be used to repair poor roads like Center Road, Emerson Road, Federal Hill Road, Mason Road, Route 101, Route 101A, Route 13, North River Road, Osgood Road, Union Street and Whiting Hill Road (7.5 total miles)
