Things are busy at the Milford polls as a steady stream of voters arrive throughout the day to cast their choice.

Town moderator Peter Basiliere said he has seen a "very high turnout" this year, with over 300 voters arriving in the first 30 minutes of the doors opening this morning. He added that they registered over 400 new voters so far today.

Basiliere said the wait is not as long as has been reported in other New Hampshire towns, and most voters have been getting in and out in under 15 minutes.

The political sign-holders are stationed outside of the doors to promote their party of choice as voters filed in. Republicans and Democrats alike are predicting big wins for their respective parties.

I think the chances are pretty good," said Republican Leonard Mannino. "Romney appeals to a wide range of Independents, Democrats and Republicans alike. He is a good draw for the ticket."

He added that the Republicans have the advantage this year with a focus on jobs and economy, which are at the top of voters' minds during the economic recovery.

"They are ready for a change in Washington and a change in New Hampshire," said Mannino.

"Obama has all of his momentum back that he got after the democratic convention," said Roger Tilton, Democratic candidate for state rep. "The political world is going to be surprised tonight because I don’t think it will be that close. I think Mitt Romney gets swept in the battleground states."

While there have been few issues with the new voter i.d. requirement, Tilton said that the focus needs to shift on getting more people to vote through early voting and mail-in votes.

Original Story:

It is finally election day and a big turnout is expected in today's general election.

Voters in Milford will line up at Souhegan High School today from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. to cast their choice for the next leaders in their communities, state and nation.

Milford has been designated as a "bellwether" town, which could give an early sign to the final election results. University of New Hampshire political science professor Dante Scala said that towns like Milford lean Republican, but not by much. Taking a town like Milford would be good news for President Barack Obama.

The Democratic candidate took Milford in 2008 by 364 votes. As an important swing state, it remains to be seen where New Hampshire citizens will place their vote this year.
