Manhunt Through New Hampshire Towns; One Dead, One Taken Into Custody In Nashua

On Wednesday, a shooting in Brookline set off a multi-community search for a gunman who shot one man and killed another in Lyndeborough.

BROOKLINE, NH - Fire, Police, and EMS responded to a reported shooting on Wednesday at Route 13 and Townsend Hill Road in Brookline.

When they arrived at about 6:30 a.m., they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. A Be On The Lookout (BOLO) call was put out for a Wilton man who had reportedly fled the scene and was considered armed and dangerous.

Sources indicate the two men tried to run each other off the road on Townsend Hill Road and the suspect got out of his vehicle and allegedly shot the victim in the chest through a vehicle window.

Several law enforcement agencies, including local police, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and New Hampshire State Police troopers worked on attempting to locate the man in Brookline, Wilton, Greenfield, and Lyndeborough.

They located an unoccupied vehicle that the man was driving and continued the search. At one point, a police officer had a white BMW speed by her and she attempted to stop the vehicle. After several miles, the vehicle was located unoccupied, and, according to radio traffic, had “a large amount of blood” in the vehicle.

A police officer from Peterborough used a K-9 to search a railroad bed in Greenfield. While this search was underway, several reports were coming in from townspeople who had spotted the man.

Officers were sent to a Center Road address in Lyndeborough, where the white BMW was registered. An officer who arrived at the scene reported one person had been fatally wounded, and several firearms appeared to missing from a gun safe. The Attorney General’s Office confirmed they are investigating the shooting death of a man, which occurred at a residence in Lyndeborough.

Center Road was closed to all non-emergency traffic, and several members of law enforcement were on the scene in front of a large barn. Wednesday afternoon, the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime unit arrived to begin processing the scene.

The search continued in Greenfield until a tip came in that the man had been given a ride to the area of Market Basket and the New Hampshire State Liquor Store in Milford. Police flooded the area around the stores and quickly learned the man matching the description told someone he was going to Nashua to seek medical care.

Officers in Nashua were notified of the description and began searching when a tip came in that the suspect possibly was in the Rail Road Square area. Nashua police, troopers, and sheriffs were initially unable to locate the man. At 12:15 p.m., police located the person they were searching for near the corner of Auburn and Beard Street that matched the description.

The man was taken into custody at gunpoint by police and transported to the Nashua Police station. AMR Ambulance was dispatched to the police station a short time later to evaluate the man. It is unclear if he was transported to a hospital.

The AG’s Office said, "The investigation into the two shooting incidents is active and ongoing. There is no current indication that the public is at risk as a result of the two incidents."
