New Boston House Destroyed By 2-Alarm Fire; Occupant Seriously Injured

The fire was located on Lyndeborough Road after calls came for smoke in the center of town. Crews were challenged by extreme temperatures.

NEW BOSTON, NH — New Boston house consumed by fire, occupant transported from the scene with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.

New Boston Fire was notified of smoke in the center of town on Friday at around 5:50 a.m.. When they arrived in the center of town, the smoke was coming from a significant distance. Crews eventually located a residence on Lyndeborough Road, on arrival they found the occupant in the driveway who appeared to be injured and confused according to sources.

The house and garage were fully engulfed in fire when crews arrived. Firefighters set up a water supply, bringing water from the center of town to the base of the driveway. Firefighters had to run a hose line for nearly a half a mile to reach the residence.

A second alarm was requested immediately, bringing additional crews and several tankers from mutual aid towns. More than three dozen firefighters engaged in a defensive attack against the fire.

The injured man was transported to Catholic Medical Center with smoke inhalation, and he appeared to have possible life-threatening injuries.

Crews were rotated on the front line of the fire due to the extreme heat and humidity.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office was summoned to the scene and is assisting in the investigation.

An excavator from New Boston DPW was brought to the scene to knock down the remaining structure.

Crews used thermal imaging cameras to locate hot spots and applied water and foam to extinguish the fire.

At this time, the cause and origin of the fire have not been determined; it will be difficult for investigators to determine due to the significant damage.
