Mill Begins Transformation into Affordable Housing

A groundbreaking ceremony for The Residences at Pine Valley Mill was held Wednesday.

An old Milford mill is on its way to revival with the addition of affordable residential housing.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday at Pine Valley Mill, located at 37 Wilton Street, to celebrate the redevelopment of the historic property. Developer Dakota Partners will bring fifty affordable housing units alongside the businesses currently occupying the building.

Roberto Arista of Dakota Partners said the new residences will offer “a quality, affordable living opportunity in a unique historical setting.”

Community Development Director Bill Parker added that this is a positive redevelopment opportunity and the mixed-use of the building is good for the location.

The project is aided by a tax credit and a $388,800 housing grant. Potential tenants are already calling in to be put on the waitlist when the residences become available in April 2014.
