Supplies Low at SHARE Food Pantry

The holiday season is the perfect time to look around and help those who have less.  SHARE Outreach, the local charity that provides food, clothing, and financial assistance for basic necessities, is reaching out to the local communities who have supported it for over thirty years. While the economy has shown some improvement, the demand for SHARE's services has continued to increase.  This is seen most clearly in the number of requests for food.

In 2011, SHARE distributed food for over 126,000 meals, serving 700 different families representing  almost 2,000 individuals. As of the end of October, 2012, SHARE has already met that number of meals. These statistics are staggering, but what is even more impressive is that while the value of this food is over $325,000, SHARE will have spent only about $45,000.

It is the donations of the community members that allow SHARE to provide food for so many. Without these, many would go hungry.

The SHARE Food Pantry is very low and in need of all sorts of donations from nonperishable foods (especially canned meats  and tuna, pasta, rice, cereal, soups, and canned vegetables and fruits) to health and beauty items such as soap, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, and feminine hygiene products.  Toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels, larger sized diapers  and baby wipes are also always needed.

There are many ways to contribute:  have family and friends bring donation to holiday parties, club meetings, and book groups; donate during the November 10 Scouting for Food Event;  purchase a pre-bagged donation at the Milford Shaw's; leave donations at any of the Milford grocery stores or local churches; or drop them at the SHARE Center Monday through Friday 8:30 - 4:00.

SHARE was founded in 1979 as the outreach program of St. Patrick's Church and serves the towns of Amherst, Mont Vernon, Milford, and Brookline.
