8 Children, 6 Adults Safely Escape Nashua House Fire On Temple Street

Firefighters arrived to fire and smoke coming from the building; crews were able to knock down the fire, but occupants will be displaced.

NASHUA, NH — Nashua Fire Rescue, police, and AMR Ambulance responded to a report of a bedroom fire on the first floor of a multi-unit building at 125 Temple St. on Monday.

The first arriving firefighters arrived at about 7:35 a.m. to smoke and fire showing from the first floor of the building. Several adults and children had self-evacuated from the building. Crews quickly stretched multiple hose lines and set up ladder trucks at the corner of Temple and Commercial streets.

Initially, it was reported all occupants were out of the building. However, one report said a person possibly remained on the second floor. Several fire crews made entry and searched all rooms, and verified everyone had safely escaped.

The bulk of the fire was knocked down quickly and crews set up fans to eject the smoke that had traveled through the entire building. Utility companies were called to the scene to cut the power and gas to the building.

AMR medics set up an ambulance at the scene and handed out blankets to the several young children and adults who huddled together outside watching the firefighters work.

Several women and children, including an infant, were brought to the ambulance to escape the rain and cool temperatures. No residents or firefighters appeared to be physically injured, and, according to Deputy Chief Kevin Kerrigan, no one required transport to the hospital by ambulance.

Deputy Chief Kerrigan credited an aggressive attack on the fire, isolating the damage to the one structure, which is surrounded by several close adjacent buildings. The first arriving crews came from the West Hollis Street station, which is about a half mile away.

None of the six adults and eight children from the building will be able to return to their residences until significant repairs are made. The American Red Cross was summoned to the scene and will offer assistance to the residents.

The fire is being investigated by the Nashua Fire Marshal’s Office.
