Human trafficking is one of the world’s fastest-growing crimes. It is not only in far-away places such as Thailand, China, Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, and Russia—the countries where we typically think of trafficking; trafficking is happening in New Hampshire, Maine, Georgia andMinnesota. In fact, it is increasing at an alarming rate in all 50 states including small towns and booming cities.
To address this issue in New Hampshire, St. Joseph Healthcare and Covenant Health Systems are offering “A Call to Action: Human Trafficking in our backyards?” on Wednesday, October 16 from 7:45 a.m.to 12:00 noon at the Crowne Plaza Nashua Hotel. Cost is $25.
The Honorable Donnalee Lozeau, Mayor of Nashua will welcome attendees and featured speakers include: Theresa Flores, LSW, MSeD, Human Trafficking Survivor, Author and Victim’s Advocate; Mark S. Zuckerman, Esq, Assistant United States Attorney. Doctors from MassGeneral Hospital will also speak on Human Trafficking and the Health Care Provider.

There are many different types of victims of human trafficking. Victims can be anyone regardless of race, color, national origin, disability, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or citizenship status. While there is no defining characteristic that all victims share, traffickers frequently prey on individuals who are poor, vulnerable, living in an unsafe situation, or are in search of a better life. Those who have a history of child sexual/physical abuse, runaways, homeless youth, have a history of substance abuse, and learning or physical disabilities are at high risk of being victims.
Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register for this conference visit www.stjosephhospital.com/Human-Trafficking or call Community Health Education at (603) 595.3168.
