Another Report of Oil Sheen in the Nashua River

City officials are investigating the source of this third report since February of oil in the river.

Officials have responded to another report of an oil slick on the Nashua River.

On April 12 at about 2 p.m. Nashua Public Works was notified of an oil sheen near the Telegraph Building in the Nashua River.  Nashua Engineering Department and Wastewater Departments made an initial response to investigate the source of the oil.

The origin of this oil was determined to be same catch basin and outlet near Water Street that experienced oil flow during early February.

Back on Feb. 23 a passerby reported an oil sheen on the Nashua River. The city's HazMat team set out absorbant booms in the area and did not find a source of oil. Four days later, more evidence of oil was apparent in the river. On March 1, fire and city officials determined the source of the oil was illegal dumping in a catch basin off Water Street.

With this new report, Nashua Fire again provided support by placing spill materials in the catch basin and near the outlet.  City officials are currently working to determine if this incident is related to the oil contamination from early February or if this is a separate incident.
