City Man Charged with Arson in Perham Street Fire

Maximum penalty is up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of the August 2012 crime.

Alexander Vegas, 23, of 9 Robinson Court, Nashua, was arrested April 12, charged by Nashua Police with setting a car on fire last August that left seven people trapped inside a Perham Street apartment building.

Vegas was arrested by Nashua Police at the Dudley District Court, located in Dudley, Mass.

On August 17, 2012, at approximately 12:27 a.m., Nashua Police patrol officers responded to a Perham Street residence for a report of a car fire. Officers discovered a vehicle engulfed in flames in the driveway, parked within feet of the residence. Due to the location of the flaming vehicle, several residents were initially trapped and had to be rescued by firefighters.

All got out safely. Firefighters deemed the fire suspicious at the time.

The investigation was furthered by detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division and a warrant was issued for Vegas, who is charged with arson, a class A felony, punishable up to 15 years in NH State Prison, exclusive of fines.

Vegas is being held at the Nashua Police Department on $35,000 cash or surety bail pending his  arraignment at the 9th Circuit-District Division-Nashua Court on April 15, 2013.
