Coronavirus Causes Thousands In NH To Be Unemployed

New Hampshire residents filing for compensation are experiencing slower computer responses — while filing is higher than ever before.

CONCORD, NH —More than 19,000 people have filed for unemployment thru Thursday and Friday, and the numbers continue to pour in. Commissioner of NH Employment Security, George Copadis, put it in perspective that in 2019 a normal week would see 500 to 550 claims average claims per week. In 2019, for the entire year, there were 24,327 people who applied in the entire calendar year. Through Friday, the exact number is 19,388.

Tuesday, 4,438 people applied, which was the highest level since the Great Recession, according to state data, and every day it has increased over that.

Employees who have lost their jobs or are facing reduced hours are directed to apply immediately.

People applying must apply online, all offices are closed to in-person assistance. Applicants should be prepared for slow computer responses due to the sheer number of people using the system.
