Crews Respond to Central Street Fire

No injuries reported and damage limited due to quick response by Nashua Fire.

Nashua Fire companies responded to 36 Central St. at about 12: 30 p.m. for a reported building fire. Engine company 4 arrived to find smoke coming from the building.  Engine 4 was assisted initially by Engine 1 and Ladder 1 (both of Amherst Street Fire Station) in attacking the fire.  A "working fire" assignment was called, bringing an additional Engine and Ladder company to the scene. 

Crews located and extinguished a fire in the basement of the building, bu found the fire had extended up through the interior of the building via the wood framing around the chimney.  Crews opened walls and ceilings on the first and second floors and fully extinguished the fire.

The building was determined to be unoccupied at the time of the fire.

No occupants were displaced; the structure will require some renovation prior being inhabitable again. 

Steep, narrow basement stairs made entry to the fire area difficult due to the close proximity of the stairs and fire area.

Nashua fire quickly responded to the fire, which limited damage to the building.

Mutual Aid Coverage/Stations was provided by Tyngsboro and Dracut Fire Departments, which covered Station 3 (Spit Brook Road Fire Station).  

The fire remains under investigation by the City of Nashua Fire Marshal's office.
