UPDATE: Fundraiser Brings in $10,000 for Injured Couple
Thanks to the generosity of the community, more than $10,000 was raised at Martha's Exchange Thursday.
UPDATE: According to a Facebook post on Martha's Exchange, Thursday's all-day fundraiser for Alvaro and Martha Galvis raised more than $10,000. The idea came from the waitstaff at Martha's, who wanted to do something to help longtime customers Alvaro and Martha Galvis, who were both injured in the April Boston Marathon bomb blast. Owner Bill Fokas was all in, and so was the community, based on your generous response:
"It is with great pleasure to announce that our Galvis fundraiser raised over $10,000 tonight! The evening was filled with joy, laughter and well wishes for Al and Martha as they recover from the Boston Marathon tragedy. This night could not have taken place without all of you and our amazing staff for contributing their time and effort to a wonderful cause! We appreciate all of you more than you know! Thanks again for coming out and making this possible!"
Original Story Begins May 16, 2013: The door is open and the food is, as always, delicious. I just polished off a veggie flatbread pizza, and purchased $20 in raffle tickets for some ah-maze-ing raffle prizes.

And then, I get to tip my waitress generously, because my tip will be matched by Martha's Exchange owner Bill Fokas, who runs the popular Main Street eatery with his brother, Chris Fokas.
He says he's just going along with his dedicated waitstaff, who had the idea to help their longtime customers, Alvaro and Martha Galvis of Nashua after learning they both suffered injuries in the Boston Marathon bomb blast a month ago.

"I'm happy we can do something to help," Fokas said.
There are several tables loaded with raffle prizes – many of them donated from neighboring businesses – including a basket of wine, gift certificates to several eateries, a pair of Patriots' tickets for the first game of the season, and some Alex and Ani jewelry – and that's just what I can remember off the top of my head.
Fokas also said he's going to stay open until you get here, so get here!
